Boomkey is a keyboard layout correction utility for macOS developed by [your name/company]. Your privacy is fundamental to how Boomkey is built.
The short version: Boomkey does not collect, store, or transmit any of your keystrokes or personal data. Everything runs locally on your Mac.
Keystroke Processing
Boomkey uses macOS Input Monitoring (CGEventTap in listen-only mode) to detect when words are typed on the wrong keyboard layout. Keystrokes are processed in memory only and are never written to disk, logged, or sent over a network. The temporary key buffer is cleared automatically after each word, on app switch, after a period of inactivity, and in several other conditions.
macOS automatically blocks all keystroke monitoring when you are typing in secure input fields such as passwords. Boomkey cannot see or access anything you type in password fields.
Clipboard Usage
When you use the double-shift hotkey correction, Boomkey temporarily accesses the clipboard to copy selected text, convert it, and paste the result. Your original clipboard content is saved before the operation and fully restored immediately after. No clipboard data is retained.
Data Stored on Your Device
Boomkey stores the following data locally on your Mac using standard macOS preferences (UserDefaults):
- Your settings and preferences (toggles, selected layout pair, sound choice)
- Your list of exception words
- Daily correction counts for the last 30 days (number only, no text content)
- First launch date (used for trial period)
No correction history is saved to disk. The history shown in Settings exists only in memory and is cleared when you quit the app.
Network Activity
Boomkey makes zero network requests to any server. The only network communication occurs through Apple's own frameworks:
- StoreKit for in-app purchases (communicates with Apple's App Store)
- App Store review prompt (if you choose to rate the app)
There are no analytics, crash reporting, telemetry, or tracking services of any kind.
Third-Party Services
Boomkey contains no third-party SDKs, frameworks, or dependencies. It is built entirely with Apple's native frameworks.
Personal Information
Boomkey does not collect, store, or have access to any personal information including your name, email, Apple ID, device identifiers, location, or any other identifying data.
Spell Checking
Boomkey uses the macOS built-in spell checker (NSSpellChecker) as a fallback for word validation. This is a local system service that uses on-device dictionaries.
Children's Privacy
Boomkey does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
